Sign and Digital Magazine, SDGmag.com, recently published an
article that demonstrates the durability of vinyl wraps. In Surviving
the Elements, author Jenny Ivy Byrne shares:
“Vehicle wraps are
usually designed and installed to weather the elements. But Ron Shaw, owner of Digital Designs in
Dubuque, Iowa, never thought his wrap would end up at the bottom of the
Mississippi River. Even more surprising,
the wrap held up virtually unscathed." Byrne explains that Shaw’s client decided to drive across the frozen
Mississippi River from Iowa to Wisconsin, but hit a channel. The ice cracked and the truck sank. Luckily, the passenger and driver made it to
shore safely. However, there was no way
to recover the truck until the spring thaw.
Finally, in April, a barge was able to reach the truck to pull it out
with a crane. Byrne reveals, “Even
though the wrap had already been on the truck for about three or four years before
the accident, the wrap remained in good condition even after sitting on the
bottom of the river.”
The truck was wrapped by Ron Shaw with Arlon DPF 6000X finished
with Arlon 3220 gloss laminate. Kudos to
Arlon for the performance of their material and to Mr. Shaw for his superior installation.
