The Application of Trademark and Copyright Law to Graphic Design: A Simple Explanation

Business training and development consultant Vince DiCecco wrote an outstanding article for the February edition of Sign & Digital Graphics.  Titled “Trademark and Copyright Laws, A simpleton’s guide to intellectual property regulation”, DiCecco succinctly explains the impact of trademark and copyright laws on graphic design.  As DiCecco expounds, “There are no easy answers when it comes to interpreting copyright law.  But the concept of copyright itself doesn’t need to be hard to understand.  Simply put, the creator of a work of art owns it as a piece of intellectual property – until and unless he sells it or otherwise grants permission (through licensing) for some else to use it.”

Mr. DiCecco owns the Acworth, GA, based company Your Personal Business Trainer.  His website is www.ypbt.com.
