17th Century Dutch Manuscript is the "Original Pantone"

   Long before Pantone was cataloging colors and setting trends, the Klaer Lightende Spiegel der Verfkonst recorded hundreds of colors as they varied with different amounts of water added to them. The 17th century Dutch document was lost in a French collector's library for about a century before being discovered in 2014.  A few of the color charts are displayed below and the complete manuscript may be viewed at:
